Dear Montpelier,
Feeling emotional these days? Join the club! The heat we are experiencing aggravates the heart and can lead to our emotions feeling quite intense. Interrupted sleep from hot nights can make it more difficult to manage what arises during the day. The sudden cool weather can shift people into the nostalgic feeling of autumn prematurely, and then jerk us back again into pounding hearts and fatigue when the hot and muggy weather returns. As beautiful as summer is, it can also be quite exhausting. Temperatures are soaring across the globe, bringing wild fires and floods. All this heat affects everyone differently. What can be done for the emotional ups and downs apart from staying cool and hydrated?
Lavendar and bergamot essential oil are great for regulating the nervous system, whether worn on the body, or put in an aromatherapy diffuser or candle. Lavender can also be added to chamomile or mint tea, as can rose buds or petals. Steep the tea for at least five minutes, let it cool, and drink it iced.
Remember self care as you run from event to event. Journalling, painting, singing, or any other form of artistic expression is a great way to work with our emotions. Make sure to get exercise. It can be easy to trick ourselves into thinking that jumping in and out of cold water counts as "swimming." When you do go swimming, actually swim. Stay swimming and in motion so that your heart rate stays up for twenty minutes. A lack of adequate exercise will lead to pent up emotions and a stir crazy feeling of being about to burst. Humidity can also do that, so it is super important to counteract that with adequate exercise without getting too light headed or fatigued from the heat! Consider building in evening walks or hikes to get your heart rate up when the world has cooled off.

Come on in for acupuncture and herbs! We can cool you down and help your heart from a variety of angles. Opening the emotional center via the yin-wei meridian, regulating the nervous system with si shen cong and NADA protocol, releasing heat from the Du and Large Intestine channels, as well as soothing the heart with Buddha's triangle are just a few examples. We're here for you!
All the Best,
Lara Foy
